Solution for Fall Detection in Washroom

A fall that goes unnoticed for a prolonged period can have serious, potentially fatal consequences. Prompt detection, timely communication and rapid access for assistance are therefore critical. ElderaTech integrates devices and automated workflows to help address these emergencies within the elder’s residence.

The Scenario

An elder enters the bathroom and locks the door from inside. A fall occurs, leaving the elder potentially unable to move, call for help or unlock the door.

• The elder may not have a mobile phone within reach.
• The elder may not be wearing a wearable alert device.

The Rescue Challenge

A locked bathroom door can delay access and assistance. Forced entry may be necessary, taking valuable time and requiring someone physically capable of opening the door.

Even if the elder remains conscious, communicating with family members or caregivers can be difficult without an accessible, hands-free communication system.

The ElderaTech Solution

A ceiling-mounted radar sensor detects a fall and triggers a configured automation workflow designed to enable access, raise alerts and establish communication:

• Audible alert through the hub: A voice alarm alerts people inside the home.
• Screen display and announcement: Voice and on-screen alerts notify family members through the configured device.
• Hands-free communication: A speaker-enabled IP phone automatically initiates a call with its speaker activated, allowing the elder to communicate without operating a device.
• Automatic door unlocking: The bathroom’s digital door lock unlocks to allow prompt access for assistance.
• App-based audible alerts: Buzzer-style alerts notify designated adult children and caregivers through the app.
